Movember

It is that time of year again and we are all getting ready for Movember! It kicks off today and we cannot wait to see those furry faces by the end of the month.

If you are new to this then here is how it works: Start with a clean shaven face on November 1st and love and nurture your moustache for the next 30 days all in the name of charity.

Most men around the country are aware this happens during November so it is talked about regularly and everyone is in it together, even the girls! The MoSistas as we are known.

The money donated goes towards supporting Prostate Cancer UK and The Institute if Cancer Research. If you would like to help us out, why not visit our Mo Space and make a donation.

Throughout the month we will be posting images of how our Mo team are getting on, on our Twitter and Facebook pages. Take a look and let us know what you think!

Gravytrain’s Moonlit Ride across London

Nightrider2012Well done to Kevin, Craig and Matt who completed their 100km moonlit ride across London for Nightrider 2012!

Setting off at Crystal Palace at 12.20am on Sunday 10th June they cycled past the National Maritime Museum, Tower Bridge, St Paul’s Cathedral, City of London, Canary Wharf, Mile End Stadium, Emirates Stadium and finished their journey at Alexandra Palace.

It was a huge challenge for them and after getting a bit lost, struggling up hills and admiring the views and sites; they finally finished at 7am!

They raised a huge £780.00 for African Revival on Just Giving – thank you to everyone who donated and supported the team.

We’re looking forward to seeing what their next challenge is!

Nightrider 2012We love doing our bit for charity and this time we are raising money for our friends at African Revival who are based around the corner in Hampton Hill.

African Revival is a wonderful charity that believes in the power of quality education in order to change lives. By building schools, training teachers, providing resources that schools need, African Revival helps break the cycle of poverty and offer inspiration and opportunity to Africa’s future generations. They currently work with over 25 schools in Uganda, Zambia and South Sudan.

To raise money for our chosen charity, we have put Kevin, Craig and Matt R to the challenge. They will be doing a 100km bike ride around London at night time, alongside 3,000 other cyclists! On the 9th June 2012 at midnight, they will be starting off at Crystal Palace and will cycle past London’s iconic landmarks including the National Maritime Museum, Tower Bridge, St Paul’s Cathedral, City of London, Canary Wharf, Mile End Stadium, Emirates Stadium and finish their journey at Alexandra Palace.

They have been training hard for the event, through wind and rain, and would love to get some sponsors on board to get them motivated.

Please help support the guys on their gruelling 100km cycle around London by sponsoring them on Gravytrain’s Just Giving Page.

London to Paris for Sport Relief 2012

Every year we love to get involved with Comic Relief; it’s just one of the many charity events we participate in here at Gravytrain, and this year was no different! After our 24 hour race at Le Mans via the Playstation last year, we thought we needed to do something a little bit more physical for this year’s Sport Relief event.

So, the Gravytrain team threw down the gauntlet for Sport Relief last week with a gruelling 12 hour Bike ride to the Eiffel Tower in the centre of Paris. Well, at least that was the plan! We seemingly underestimated our own fitness levels as we managed to cover the full 342 kilometres in just eight hours and forty minutes. Not only were we surprised by our stamina and fitness, but we were also delighted to have comprehensively beaten our own target whilst raising some significant money for Sport Relief in the process.

Clad in our best sporting attire we took the reins of the spin bike one by one to complete 20-30 minute stints in order to cover the full distance from our office in Hampton Hill to the Eiffel Tower. The bike ride was supposed to be in no way competitive between us, as it was a team effort purely for charity, however, it soon turned into a mini competition to see who could cover the longest distance before having to take a break. That achievement went to one of our Web Developers, the fiery haired Craig who left us all in his wake as he covered 24.5km in just 30 minutes.

Of course, with every competition, there is always someone bringing up the rear and in this case, unfortunately, it was one of our Social Media Exec’s, Nick, who covered the shortest distance as he only managed a distance of 11.9km in 20 minutes, and then nearly passed out…nonetheless every little helps. Thanks Nick!

Furthermore, we also worked out that Alex, our Business Development Executive, who covered 16km in 25 minutes, would lap Nick a total of 13 times if they were to cycle the Indianapolis 500. This was just one of our many findings.

The spin bike used was lent to us by motive8, a health and fitness consultancy group based just a stone’s throw from Gravytrain HQ, and they now plan to beat our time to the Eiffel Tower, something we expect they’ll do since they are trained athletes! Thanks for all your help guys and good luck trying to beat our time.

So far we’ve raised £745.00 for our efforts, however there is still time to donate. Simply visit our Sport Relief sponsor page in order to give what you can to help change lives in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries. It’s a great cause that we love getting involved in and one that we all feel proud to have taken part in.

Well done team!

Gravytrain does Sport Relief

Sport ReliefHow time flies, it has just been over a year since the Gravytrain team took part in a gruelling 24 hour simulator car race to raise money for comic relief. This year on Friday 23rd March, the team will be putting themselves forward and raising money for this great charity, by challenging themselves with cycling from the Gravytrain HQ to the Eiffel Tower. However, similarly to last year, we won’t be doing the challenge for real, but we will be using an exercise bike.

From 12pm we will be taking it in turns to get on the bike and reach 342km in less than 12 hours. Please sponsor us!

Comic relief is a major charity based in the UK which strives to create a just world free from poverty, through the power of entertainment. The charity raises millions of pounds through two big fundraising campaigns which you may have heard of – Red Nose Day and Sport Relief.

Sport Relief gets everyone active while raising money and helping to change lives in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries. It’s a great cause that we love getting involved in!

We are aiming to raise £2,500 so would really appreciate it if you could help us by visiting our sponsor page and giving what you can. You can also follow our journey on Twitter.
