The infographic illustrates a number of statistics that we gathered about mobile phone ownership across the world. It reveals just how those 327,557,000 mobile phone owners in the USA actually use their phones. For example, over half of smartphone owners in the USA use them in bed, which isn’t surprising to me as it’s the first thing I reach out for in the morning!

And it seems that we are just as bad when it comes to putting our mobile phones down in the UK, as 22% of adults and 47% of teens have admitted to answering their phones in the bathroom or on the toilet!

Another interesting figure is that around 2.7 billion SMS texts are sent in China every day. This means that every one of us in the UK would need to send 43 texts a day to match these crazy figures!

Are you addicted to your mobile phone? Let us know what you think about the infographic!

If you are interested in having an infographic made for your company, please contact our Business Development Executive, Alex Moran, on 020 8941 2364.

Last week, Gravytrain’s CEO, Kevin Taylor, talked to POSTonline.co.uk about the future of aggregators and how insurers and brokers can best build their brand among customers as, even though price is important when making purchases, it has recently been revealed that brand recognition trumps price when consumers buy via price comparison sites.

In a recent study of 2200 UK consumers, we found that 35% bought from brands they recognised and trust, while just 20% bought from whoever offered the lowest quote.

The research also showed that those who targeted the over 55s, particularly needed to focus on building brand awareness, as 43% of the over 55s buy from brands they trust.

The study revealed that 69% of consumers were likely to select one insurer over another on a price comparison site, if there were added extras such as the opportunity to pay in instalments and free legal advice, which shows that having the lowest price seems even less important.

Kevin concludes that to drive brand awareness, it’s vital that brokers and insurers invest in targeted multi-channel marketing activity. For example, through search marketing, radio ads, social media or direct mail, which will be more successful than just investing money on an aggregator presence.

Kevin says, “What is important is that insurers and brokers understand what consumers look for from suppliers on these sites. Today, it seems this is more than just a low price; it is a trusted brand that offers them added value.”

If you are a POSTonline subscriber, you can read the full article on POSTonline.co.uk.

Movember is upon us once again and the Gravytrain Mo’s are off to a smooth start this moustache season!

For those who don’t know about Movember, it’s when men from across the world, also known as Mo Bros, start of with a clean-shaven face on the 1st November and then jump on the hairy bandwagon to grow, groom and nurture their way to a fine looking moustache over 30 days.

However, it’s not just ANY moustache, it’s a moustache that gets people talking and raising awareness about men’s health, that can often be ignored. The Mo Bros can join forces with women, also known as Mo Sistas, to raise money and get their Mo-growing efforts sponsored.

Not only does it generate a few giggles, but Movember also raises awareness for a great cause and funds world class programmes including, The Prostate Cancer Charity, The Institute of Cancer Research, Awareness & Education and Global Action Plan.

You can keep up to date with Gravytrain’s Mo growing efforts on Twitter, Facebook and also here on our blog. If you would like to support a good cause and sponsor our Mo Bros then why not visit Gravytrain’s Mo Space.

Last Friday the Gravytrain team got involved in “wear it pink day” to show our support for breast cancer research.

The mission Breast Cancer Campaign has, is to fund innovative, world-class research to understand how breast cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention and ultimately, beating breast cancer.

“Wear it pink day” was a really fun and easy way to raise money for this wonderful charity, we all wore something pink and donated £2 to Breast Cancer Campaign. We also got extra donations by selling pink cupcakes and doughnuts, getting the office involved in the competitive sweepstake that was included in the fundraising pack and shouting about it around Hampton Hill to encourage the local businesses to donate.

Breast Cancer Campaign currently supports 105 research projects, worth over £17.3 million in 31 centres of excellence across the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

The office looked very pretty in pink! If you would also like to make a donation and help Breast Cancer Awareness You can make a donation here.

Last night the Gravytrain Search team made their way to HMS President, the location of the latest Online Marketing Meetup.

This was a great opportunity for the team to meet and greet others within the fast growing digital marketing industry.

Upon arriving at the event we were treated to three presentations. The first was by Nick Garner, Head of Search at Unibet. He spoke about how to use CRM, Social Media, SEO and Online PR to engage with consumers at the “Zero Moment of Truth”, as Google calls it. Next up on the agenda was Mike Essex from Koozai who introduced us to their ideas of first page domination for your brand within Google’s search engine, before Samantha Stratton rounded off the presentations by explaining just how Koozai achieved their first page domination.

After the presentations we had a chance to digest the information over a few drinks whilst engaging with others from the digital marketing realms.

It was a fantastic evening, and we here at Gravytrain are already looking forward to the next one. We would like to thank Gus and Matt from QUAD London for organising and hosting the event.

It was a chance for the team to meet and network with other people on a permanently moored ship along the Embankment, who also have a passion for digital marketing!

Not only was it a chance to network, there were also three guest speakers at the event including Jeremy Waite, Head of Social Media at Phones4U, Alex Myers from Manifest London PR Agency and Heather Taylor from the BBC who talked about her experiences of Social Media and Online PR. It was good to gain knowledge about other case studies and to also hear from other industry experts.

We met other businesses and enjoyed discussing online marketing over a few drinks, as well as speaking to individuals who wanted to find out more about the industry.

Since Google+ was launched two months ago, a staggering number of over twenty million users have set up an account; it took Facebook three years to gain the same number of users.

As Google+ pages for businesses aren’t available until the autumn, UTalkMarketing.com discusses what brands and businesses might want to get out of the social networking platform, once they’ve signed up.

One of the suggestions was having an online shopping experience on Google+. Facebook offers online shopping within Facebook pages, however businesses have struggled to measure how much of its new business can be attributed directly from consumer activity on the site. Matthew says “I would like to see the integration of [Google’s] shopping search results, so that businesses can have a direct point of sale on their Google+ profile and therefore accurately attribute sales from this medium”.

The article suggests that Google+ could challenge Facebook by touting itself as an effective new business tool.

You can read Matthew’s thoughts and the rest of the article on UTalkMarketing.com.

It was a chance for us to meet other businesses from all industries that are based in and around the local area. The event was a great opportunity for the Search Marketing Team and other businesses to talk about what we do and how we can all help each other in an informal environment.

In the evening we were very lucky to have the nice weather and were able to enjoy the sunset with a few drinks on the decking as the New Southern Belle sailed along the Thames for a 2 and a half hour boat ride.

We met both new and established businesses and overall the turnout for the event was great, over 100 people attended! It was nice to meet everyone and we would like to thank all the organisers at The Best of Richmond for arranging the event. We are looking forward to the next one!
