Java Developer

Job Title:Graduate Java Developer

Salary: Competitive
Based: Teddington
Experience: 1-2 years University/Work Experience
Reporting to: Head of Web Services

Role Purpose

To support, maintain & develop Gravytrain’s existing Java based platforms as well as working on new projects. This includes an insurance platform which provides quote & buy or lead generation for customer websites.

Main Activities

  • Ensure customer sites are running normally
  • Deal with customer support tickets
  • Use of agile methodologies including sprints and scrums as well the use of JIRA
  • Contribute to ‘Sprint’ planning where required
  • Completion of project work detailing new features to implement & issues with the current sites to address
  • Testing of work to ensure a high quality of code

Skills & Capabilities required

Required technical skills/capabilities

    Java & related technologies:

  • Experience 1-2 years minimum as part of a university course and/ or work experience
  • JSP and/ or Servlets
  • Java Database Connectivity (JDBC)
  • Basic level of knowledge of:

  • HTML
  • SQL
  • Linux command line
  • Source control systems
  • Unit test frameworks

Optional technical skills/ capabilities

    Java & related technologies:

  • Spring framework and/ or related projects under the Spring banner
  • Persistence
  • Java Persistence API (JPA)
  • Hibernate ORM
  • Build Systems:

  • Apache ANT
  • Apache Maven
  • Testing Frameworks:

  • Testing
  • Mockito
  • Basic level of knowledge of:

  • Design patterns
  • Dependency Injection (DI)/ Inversion of Control (IOC)
